Definition of a Gateway Page

A Gateway Page also called a Doorway Page is a website set up either on your website or on another website that will draw visitors to your site. The most common way to attract them is by the use of Keywords/Keyphrases. The pages are said to be optimized for that keyword when the keyword is repeated within the page 3 - 5 times. These pages are submitted to the search engines. The search engines send out their spiders (internet robot programs) that "crawl" your gateway page. They determine what words are most important and score your page accordingly. The higher your score the higher your ranking for that particular keyword on their engine.

The best Gateway page is laid out very simply. The title is the keyword. Then some text that includes the keyword at the beginning of the text. Example: If the keyword is "business opportunity" the text would read something like, "A business opportunity that is easy and fun to do." Then, next to this text should be a small photo or graphic to make the page look better. Below that should be other text about the business opportunity. you should have at least 150 words in the text portion. Under the text should be a hyperlink to your homepage (sales page). The hyperlink text should be the keyword like the example keyword "business opportunity".

Some more technical info: The picture's Alternate (ALT) text should be "business opportunity". The page's meta keyword needs to be "business opportunity". The page's meta Description should be "A business opportunity that is easy and fun to do." The page's title between the <title></title> tags should be "business opportunity".

Gateway pages or doorway pages could have articles on them or other things of interest to a reader that would draw people to your website.
