Presidents
Message
By Harry Schneider, DTM
As
2004 draws to a close, our club continues its transition to an open club. At
the November 23 meeting the choices for a new name were narrowed to: United
Toastmasters, United Speakers Toastmasters, and United Communicators
Toastmasters. Hopefully, the
“name change” issue can be resolved before the first meeting of 2005.
Starting on January 4, 2005, we will be meeting in the Conference
Room. Our new meeting location (which has no room number) is on the first
floor south of the sanctuary. The
Conference Room will be the third meeting site at
First
United
Methodist
Church
since our club was chartered in 1987. Previously, we met in the old Parlor
from 1987 to 1997 and in Room 261 from 1997 through 2004.
Sheryl McBroom was accepted as a new member at the November 23 meeting
and gave a speech that same evening. She is a CTM and was a member of Tank
Town Toastmasters in
Tracy
,
California
. Welcome, Sheryl!
Paul and Julie Kocher will host the annual Holiday Party on December
21 at 7:00pm. Remember to bring
a wrapped, “white elephant” gift for the Chinese Gift Exchange.
I hope to see all of you there.

Meeting
Thoughts of the Day
“If you don’t have
a dream, how can you have a dream come true?” … Faye LaPointe
“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do.
Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or
predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.” …William Faulkner
"You
aren't your experiences. You are what you make of them."
…Deborah Bell
“Someone once asked me what I want on my epitaph when I pass
away. Just the words – ‘I tried.” That’s what this game of
life is all about. Trying. There’s the tryers, the criers, and the
liars. …Mickey Rooney

The Next Horizon
by
Ralph Marsten
The
steeper and more difficult the climb becomes, the closer you are to the
summit.
The
more you feel like quitting, the more there is to be gained by continuing
to persist.
With
every difficulty that arises, the eventual accomplishment becomes that
much more fulfilling.
The
weariness you feel is proof that you’ve already made much progress.
Keep
going, especially now, for just over the next horizon is where you were
meant to be.
Toastmaster of the Month
This month’s Toastmaster of the Month joined
our club in 1991. She has been
club President twice. She started the Toastmaster of the Month award during
her first term as President in 1992.
This term she is serving as Vice President Public Relations/Newsletter
Editor, a position she has capably filled numerous times in the past. She
produces a timely, informative newsletter each month.
Last term she was Vice President Membership and was named the Outstanding
Vice President Membership for Area 31 for the January-June 2004 term.
She plays an active role in our club despite holding a full-time job and
helping raise her two grandchildren. She is always willing to perform a
new/second job at the meeting when necessary.
Congratulations to the Toastmaster of the Month for December,
Julie
Kocher!
